Working Principle of Solar Lamp Street Lights


Photoelectric Conversion


Solar Panel


The solar panel installed at the top of the solar street light is the key component for photoelectric conversion. These panels consist of multiple solar cells, each made from two layers of different materials. When sunlight hits the solar panel, electrons jump from one layer and are attracted to the other layer, forming a current, thereby converting solar energy into direct current (DC) electric energy.


Charge Controller


The DC electric energy generated by the solar panel first passes through the charge controller for control and management. The charge controller converts the electric energy into the voltage and current characteristics suitable for battery charging, ensuring that the battery can be charged safely and efficiently.


Energy Storage


Battery


The converted electric energy is transferred to the battery for storage via the charge controller. The battery is where the solar street lamp stores energy, used to supply power during the night or on cloudy days with insufficient sunlight. These batteries typically use maintenance-free valve-regulated sealed batteries (gel batteries) or lithium iron phosphate batteries, known for their long lifespan and stable performance.


Intelligent Control and Management


Controller


The controller is one of the core components of the solar street light. It is responsible for monitoring the battery's power level, changes in ambient light, and controlling the switch and brightness of the street light. When the ambient light dims to a certain level, the controller will automatically turn on the street light; when the light brightens again, the controller will turn off the street light. Additionally, the controller has protection functions to prevent battery overcharge, over-discharge, and short-circuit, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the street light system. It can also be set to energy-saving modes, adjusting brightness based on the volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic at different times.


Intelligent Light Control and Time Control System


Some advanced solar lamp street lights are equipped with intelligent light control and time control systems (microwave or infrared sensing systems). These systems can automatically adjust the lighting duration and brightness of the fixtures based on changes in weather and sunlight to achieve energy-saving effects. For instance, in rainy weather or darker nights, the system will automatically increase lighting duration and brightness; on clear days or brighter nights, it will reduce lighting duration and brightness. Additionally, the system can increase the light's brightness when pedestrians or vehicles pass by and lower the brightness when no one is around, thus achieving energy savings and extending lighting duration.

LED Light Source


The lighting component of solar lamp street lights usually uses LED light sources. LED light sources are efficient, energy-saving, environmentally friendly, and have a long lifespan, capable of emitting bright and uniform light, providing adequate illumination for roads. When the controller detects that the ambient light has dimmed and turns on the street light, the LED light source starts working and provides lighting. LED chips can choose from top-tier brands, which offer high light efficacy and low light decay. The color temperature of LEDs can also be chosen, from warm light to warm white light to white light, with color temperatures ranging from 2500K to 6000K.
